Q&A:

Q: What should I bring/wear to skate?
Comfy workout clothes (many of our skaters wear shorts or running style capris/leggings), tennis shoes, gear if you have it, and your interest in roller derby!

Q: I don’t have quad roller skates. Do you have some I can borrow for my first session?
Yes! Email membership@bigeasyrollerderby.com to give us a heads up that you will need skates.

Q: What sort of equipment or gear do I need?
We have loaner gear! However, we do recommend that you bring your own mouthguard (available online or in the sporting goods section) and a helmet (a bike helmet works!). Please contact membership@bigeasyrollerderby.com to sign up and ask about loaner gear – including skates!

A full list of gear is:
-Quad Skates
-Helmet
-Mouthguard
-Knee Pads
-Elbow Pads
-Wrist Guards

Since gear can be an investment, we recommend that you email membership@bigeasyrollerderby.com to get more information before purchasing!

Q: I don’t know how to roller skate… Is that okay?
Absolutely! A good number of skaters had minimal to no skating experience before starting roller derby. We will teach you how to skate, from the wheels up.

Q: Can I use inline skates?
Roller derby skaters can only skate with quad roller skates – per the rules of WFTDA, our governing body.

Q: I already know how to skate in quads. Is Derby 101 still for me?
Yes! Derby 101 will introduce you to the foundations of skating specifically for roller derby, basic derby concepts, and will help you build a strong foundation of strength training.
