September 22 Recap - Big Easy Roller Derby

September 22 Recap

Big Easy finished the year with a win for the Crescent Wenches and an excellent bout by the AllStars.

The night began with the Wenches against the Cajun Rollergirls of Houma, La. Though the Wenches held the lead the whole bout, Cajun put up more of a fight than expected with strong jamming from Ms. Chevious, Jack E. RIPher and fan favorite Delirium Trigger. The CW teamwork you’ve come to know and love came out on top, emerging victorious 170-103.

Your Big Easy AllStars faced the Tallahassee RollerGirls Capital Punishment in a rematch from this year’s April away bout. With the opponents ranked 9th in the WFTDA South Central region against BERG’s 22, there was fear of a repeat 251-point loss. Fortunately, much-needed teamwork and smart pack play by Big Easy showed how far these ladies have come! Low penalties and great determination kept the first period a battle, and by halftime BERG had its greatest lead over Tallahassee at 104-98. The fight continued in period two, with each jam a quick grab for points. Tally reclaimed the lead early on and held on the remainder of the bout.

Though the final score of 211-152 indicated a loss for BERG, it felt a lot like a win with a score difference one-fourth that of the teams’ last meeting!

Thank you to everyone who has supported the Big Easy Rollergirls this year! We have one more away game – a mixed-level mock sanctioned bout at Cajun – but we’re done at home. Keep an eye out for off-season events and the 2013 schedule.
